Why I give it and why you need to do it!
Your horse’s body has a way of taking care of itself during times of physical imbalance/ pain/ lameness. This defence can take the form of muscle spasms, restricted joints and reduced range of motion. During this time the signals to and from the central nervous system become disrupted and while physiotherapy, chiropractic techniques, myofacial release, stretching, massage and electrotherapy can alleviate the pain and the dysfunction, the pattern of movement needs to be corrected too in order to restore the correct signals and prevent further injury. This is why your therapist gives you homework and it is essential that you do it. The homework will consist of carefully tailored exercises that take into consideration the dysfunction and the facilities available to you. Not everyone has an arena to work in so sometimes we have to think outside the box and there is so much you can achieve while your hacking out or during lessons with your instructor. The most important thing is that we work together to establish correct movement and postural patterns
